Wolfman (2010)

My first post about a movie from the new decade. how exciting.

The movie was okay, enjoyable to watch but you could see everything coming from 10 miles away... except the parts with giant werewolves or very creepy children jumping out of blackness. the first time you see the main villain, you look at him and think to yourself, "that is totally a bad guy." even though he is the main character's father. a little, okay VERY predictable, it was exciting enough to please horror movie fans. (which i am not.) with a few good castles, lots of late 1800's guns, and guts and fog a plenty, the action was very exciting and well spaced out. I learned one important thing about England in the late 1800s: it is ALWAYS foggy. always. like there's a law about it. except for once and a while; it rains. the action was good, the plot actually not bad despite being very predictable, but the acting was halfhearted at times.
lawrence talbot (Benicio Del Toro), an actor originally from england but moved to america early in his life following his disturbance of seeing his mother commit suicide (you learn it's something different but i suppose i should save some of the surprise...) the movie follows his attempt to figure out what happened to his brother, ben talbot, after he is killed by a werewolf in the opening scene. the movie moves along at a nice pace, giving you clues to put together to uncover the mystery of the family and their curse, and slowly explaining who is the werewolf and the other villagers' attempts at stopping the beast.
The scariest part of this movie were the random flashes of werewolves and extremely terrifyingly creepy smeagle-like children. those parts made just about everyone in the theatre (me included) jump in their seats. the actual movie was not too horrifying, and the werewolves were more comical than scary. they looked almost exactly like Michael Jackson from the Thriller music video... and that is not even an exaggeration.
The end was the only part i did not see totally coming, although i kinda saw it coming. i just couldn't quite predict the final victim in the chain of wolfmen. the ending was pretty good, a nice cliffhanger, but it tied up all the necessary ends. i think a sequel would be pushing it, but i'm sure if they made it, people would buy tickets for it. if they spice up the plot i would be moderately interested in seeing a sequel, however probably not in theatres.
There was not much to say in this review. it was good; not great, not terrible. acting was good most of the time, however there were scenes that made you think, "did that actor just not want to act that day of filming?" all together, i don't regret spending money on it in theatres, and i actually might go and see it again in the theatres if i'm in the mood for a good horror flim. which isn't very often, but it happens.

Overall Rating: 5.6 out of 10.0
